Euro Area September Inflation Reaches Highest Level in Three Years
Consumer prices in the Euro Area increased by 3.8 percent annually in September, reaching a three-year peak.
According to data from the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, consumer prices in the Euro Area increased by 3.8 percent year-on-year in September, reaching their highest level in three years.
Inflation Rates in September
According to official data released by the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, consumer prices in the region increased by 3.8 percent in September compared to the previous year. In August, this rate stood at 3.2 percent.
Exceeded Expectations
The realized September inflation marked the highest level recorded since the September 2023 period. This rate came in slightly above the 3.7 percent median forecast in the Bloomberg survey.
Core Inflation and Services
Core inflation, calculated by excluding volatile items such as energy, rose by 2.5 percent, in line with market expectations. Meanwhile, services inflation rose to 3.2 percent during this period.
Increases in the Four Largest Countries
Price increases in all of the Euro Area's four largest member states remained above expectations. The inflation rate climbed up to 5 percent in Spain.
Monetary Policy and Expectations
While ECB officials aim to prevent the energy shock from taking root in the economy, expectations for an interest rate hike this month have diminished. President Christine Lagarde stated that there will be no rush in tightening monetary policy.
