FATF Report Published: Turkey Placed Under Monitoring in Fight Against Money Laundering

The 5th Round Mutual Evaluation Report published by the Financial Action Task Force revealed the latest status of Turkey's fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. As a result of the evaluations, Turkey complied with 38 of the 40 designated recommendations and was placed under close monitoring with a new three-year roadmap to address shortcomings.

Recommendations Complied With

In the report prepared by the Financial Action Task Force, Turkey's activities in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing were addressed in detail. As a result of the reviews conducted, it was officially determined that Turkey complies with 38 of the 40 core recommendations set by FATF.

Pending Judicial Files

The report emphasized that faster steps need to be taken regarding the implementation of rules and the finalization of cases related to criminal proceeds. Specifically, attention was drawn to the existence of more than 7,000 files awaiting the completion of the judicial process, and it was requested that the processes in this regard be accelerated.

Priority Crime Areas

It was requested that greater emphasis be placed on investigations carried out against the laundering of revenues derived from areas such as drug trafficking, smuggling, and illegal betting. The expectation is not only to initiate investigations, but also to take the files to court and finalize them.

Three-Year Roadmap

A special work plan covering the next three years has been established for Turkey. During this process, the steps taken and the results achieved will be regularly reported to the relevant institution, and an enhanced follow-up process will be implemented.
