France calls on EU to relax fuel standards
The French leader applied to Brussels to lower record fuel prices and take measures against the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
French President Emmanuel Macron has requested the European Union to temporarily relax kerosene and diesel standards in order to bring down rising fuel prices and cope with the effects of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
Letter Sent to the European Commission
It was announced that French President Emmanuel Macron sent an official letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with the aim of reducing fuel prices.
Goal to Increase Refinery Production
It was stated that temporarily easing regulations on fuel quality could increase the amount of fuel produced in refineries by 5 to 20 percent.
Energy Crisis in the Strait of Hormuz
It was emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz, which has been almost completely closed since March, has triggered a deep crisis in global energy markets and negatively impacted Europe.
Import Dependency on the Middle East
It was reported that the Middle East's share of Europe's kerosene imports stands at 36 percent, while its share of diesel imports is at 18 percent.
Sectoral Protests in France
It was reported that protests in the fishing and agriculture sectors continued after diesel prices in France broke records, approaching 2.41 euros per liter.
