Germany becomes Turkey's top export destination in the first eight months

While Germany became Turkey's largest trade partner as Turkey increased its total exports in the January-August period, shipments to this country reached billions of dollars.

Turkey's exports to Germany increased by 3.8 percent year-on-year in the January-August period of 2026, reaching 13 billion 576 million 381 thousand dollars, with Germany taking the first place.

General Export Figures

According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Turkey's total exports registered a 4 percent increase in the January-August period compared to the same period of last year.

The total export volume, which stood at 177.9 billion dollars in the same period of last year, rose to 185 billion dollars this year.

Top Export Destinations

Germany was recorded as the country to which Turkey made the most exports during the January-August period.

Germany was followed respectively by the USA with 9 billion 636.6 million dollars, the United Kingdom with 9 billion 219.3 million dollars, and Italy with 8 billion 561.6 million dollars.

Following these countries, Spain ranked on the list with 7 billion 238.9 million dollars and France with 6 billion 925.8 million dollars.

Exports to Germany by Province

While Istanbul ranked first in exports to Germany, the external sales of companies based in Istanbul increased by 1 percent to reach 5 billion 235.9 million dollars.

Istanbul was followed by Bursa with 1 billion 988.1 million dollars, Kocaeli with 1 billion 552.8 million dollars, Izmir with 979.7 million dollars, and Ankara with 734.7 million dollars.

Sectoral Distribution and Developments

In Turkey's exports to Germany on a sectoral basis, the automotive industry ranked first, with this sector's external sales increasing by 2.4 percent to 4 billion 441.3 million dollars.

The automotive sector was followed by readymade clothing, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, electrical and electronics, and chemical substances sectors.

Meanwhile, fresh fruit and vegetable sector exports rose by a notable rate of 47.9 percent to 270.6 million dollars.
