Global clean hydrogen investments rose to 130 billion dollars as of September
Global clean hydrogen investments reached 130 billion dollars as of September, while total committed production capacity hit 6.9 million tons annually.
According to the Global Hydrogen Compass 2026 report prepared by the Hydrogen Council, total investments in clean hydrogen worldwide have reached a volume of 130 billion dollars and projects have gained momentum.
Investment Figures and Capacity
Investments in clean hydrogen projects on a global scale reached a total magnitude of 130 billion dollars as of September.
In line with this financial size, the total committed capacity rose to the level of 6.9 million tons annually.
Status and Distribution of Projects
Work is underway on more than 570 projects worldwide to achieve the specified capacity targets.
Approximately 90 percent of these ongoing projects are currently in the construction stage or actively in operation.
Investment Motivations
The primary motivations shaping clean hydrogen investments vary according to geographical regions.
More than 60 percent of committed investments are concentrated in the areas of energy security, economic growth, and decarbonization.
Security of Supply and Supply Diversity
Local-scale clean hydrogen production allows countries dependent on energy and raw material imports to diversify their supply sources.
Such solutions create alternative sources for agriculture and industry, reducing supply chain and critical mineral dependencies.
Renewable Energy Integration
The report clearly emphasizes that approximately 34 percent of the world's electricity generation is provided from renewable sources.
Technologies such as electrolyzers and fuel cells provide demand flexibility in the integration of renewable energy into the system.
