Global markets focused on the critical statements Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is set to make at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, following the personal consumption expenditures price index in the US exceeding expectations in July and persistent inflationary pressures.

US Data and Inflation Concerns

Recent macroeconomic data released in the US showed that inflationary pressures continue and overshadowed the optimism created by chipmaker Nvidia's strong balance sheet. The personal consumption expenditures price index, among the Fed's key inflation indicators, recorded a 0.2 percent monthly increase in July.

Fed Expectations and Bond Yields

In money market pricing, the probability of the Fed keeping interest rates steady next month is projected at 66 percent, while the probability of a 25 basis point hike in October stands at 62 percent. With these developments, the US 2-year Treasury yield rose to 4.23 percent, and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 4.69 percent.

Jackson Hole Symposium and Fed Officials

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh will deliver a speech at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium for the first time in his capacity as head of the institution. Meanwhile, Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, and Boston Fed President Susan Collins also made assessments regarding policies to combat inflation.

The dollar index hovered at 99.2 with a 0.1 percent increase, while the dollar/TL traded at 48.2450 in the interbank market. In global markets, the ounce price of gold found buyers at 4,580 dollars, and the barrel price of October Brent crude oil traded at 89.2 dollars.

While the BIST 100 index on Borsa İstanbul completed the session with a 0.24 percent loss in value, the Capital Markets Board shared a principal decision with the public determining the criteria to be prioritized in finalizing initial public offering applications.
