Gold followed a flat course on Thursday, pressured by expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will tighten its monetary policy.

The Impact of Fed Policies on Markets

Gold prices followed a sideways trend on Thursday under the pressure of expectations that the U.S. Central Bank will further tighten its monetary policy.

The decline observed in oil prices, on the other hand, provided partial support to precious metal prices and kept market volatility in balance.

Current Status of Spot Gold and Futures Contracts

In the spot market, gold recorded a limited decline of 0.1 percent, retreating to $4,281.98 per ounce.

Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures for December delivery experienced no significant change, finding buyers at $4,317.50.

Experts' Evaluations on Interest Rate Policy

VT Markets Chief Strategy Officer Ross Maxwell stated that market investors are focusing on the Fed's approach of keeping interest rates high for a longer period.

As it may be recalled, the U.S. Central Bank raised its policy rate by 25 basis points last week to a range of 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent.

Latest Status in Other Precious Metals

Along with gold, varying degrees of activity and changes were recorded in other precious metals.

While spot silver fell 0.6 percent to $64.07, platinum increased by 0.2 percent to $1,754.05, and palladium declined by 0.1 percent to $1,260.70.
