Google to invest $15 billion AI infrastructure in Finland

Alphabet-owned Google has announced that it will invest at least 13 billion euros, or approximately $15.1 billion, in AI infrastructure in Finland over the next two years.

Largest Investment in Europe

This massive financial move by Alphabet is recorded as the company's largest single-tranche investment to date on the European continent.

Finland's Advantages

Also favored by giants such as Microsoft and TikTok owner ByteDance, Finland lowers data center cooling costs thanks to its cold climate and offers low-carbon electricity sources.

Scope and Objectives of the Investment

Projects to be implemented in 2027 and 2028 will cover data centers, electrical grid improvements, clean energy, and battery projects.

These infrastructure works will directly support the development and performance of popular digital services such as Gemini, Search, Maps, and YouTube.

Economic and Employment Contribution

According to information shared by Google, approximately $3.6 billion will be contributed to Finland's gross domestic product during the construction process.

Once the facilities are fully operational, it is projected to create employment opportunities for about 7,000 people each year.

Assessment from the Government Side

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated in an official statement that Google's decision is clear proof of the country's strengths.
