Hazelnut producers in Giresun turn to TMO due to low free market price
With the drop in the free market price in Giresun, hazelnut producers have started preparations to deliver their products to TMO, which offers a base price of 255 liras.
As the hazelnut harvest nears its end in Giresun, the drop in free market prices down to 190-200 liras has driven producers toward the Soil Products Office (TMO). To avoid losses, producers are preparing to dry their products and deliver them in compliance with TMO criteria.
Harvest Season and Preference for TMO
As the hazelnut harvest comes to an end in Giresun, producers have chosen the Soil Products Office for their sales preference. Following the decline of prices in the free market, producers are continuing their preparations to make their hazelnuts comply with TMO's purchasing criteria for delivery.
Producer Appointment and Application Status
According to the statement made by TMO, approximately 100,000 producers have created appointments for 205,000 tons of hazelnuts so far. Producers are preparing to dry and select their products in accordance with TMO's criteria before delivery.
Cost Comparison and Reactions
Stating that he sold his hazelnuts to the free market last year, İbrahim Zeynel expressed that this year's free market price does not cover the costs. Zeynel noted that due to the low price, he is considering giving his product to TMO.
Loss Calculation and Base Price
Yusuf Zeynel stated that the government announced a base price of 255 liras, but the free market is purchasing at 200 liras. He emphasized that selling to the free market would result in a loss of 55,000 liras per 1 ton of hazelnuts.
Yield and Criticism of Chambers of Agriculture
Vahdet Pirgaip criticized low yield practices, arguing that chambers of agriculture had created high expectations. Pirgaip stated that he gave a portion of his hazelnuts to TMO and will deliver the rest as well.
