Historic Inflow into Gold Funds
Demand for physical gold-backed exchange-traded funds increased significantly in August, witnessing a total net gold inflow of 201 tonnes in a single month. This volume was recorded as the third-strongest monthly inflow in history, following the periods of February 2009 and March 2020.
Positions of Professional Investors
In the futures market, the monetary size of net long positions in gold held by professional money managers reached the second-highest level seen since record-keeping began. The record level for these positions was seen in January 2026.
Expectation of Rise in the Options Market
Demand for call options reflecting expectations of a rise in gold funds increased. It was notable that the put-to-call ratio in one of the major gold funds dropped to its lowest level in the last six months.
Fed Policy and Inflation Expectations
The interest rate policy of the US Federal Reserve continues to be a determining factor for the short-term direction of gold prices. Following the US non-farm payrolls data, potential interest rate steps at the September meeting and the PPI and CPI data to be released this week are being closely monitored.
