Historic Gediz Bridge Reopened with Ceremony After Restoration

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Historic Gediz Bridge in İzmir's Menemen district, which was restored in accordance with its original form, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of historic bridges whose restoration has been completed across Turkey is 532, while work on 48 structures is ongoing.

Bridge Opening Ceremony Held

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made important statements at the opening ceremony of the Historic Gediz Bridge, which was restored in accordance with its original structure in the Menemen district. Following prayers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the historic structure was reopened to service.

Revival of Historic Structures Continues

Minister Uraloğlu announced that the number of historic bridges brought back to our cultural heritage after completing their restorations has reached 532, and restoration works are ongoing for 48 historic bridges. Uraloğlu emphasized that they are not only building transportation infrastructure, but also preserving the memory of these lands.

Technical Characteristics of the Bridge

Stating that the Historic Gediz Bridge is 166.5 meters long, 6.7 meters wide, and has 5 spans, Uraloğlu noted that the structure was built with an overhead reinforced concrete arch system. Through comprehensive work carried out by the General Directorate of Highways, the structure regained its functional identity.

Investments Made in İzmir

Uraloğlu also stated in his remarks that approximately 349 billion liras have been invested in İzmir's transportation and communication infrastructure over the past 24 years. It was noted that the city's infrastructure has been significantly strengthened with these investments.

Protocol Attending the Ceremony

The opening ceremony was attended by İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban, General Director of Highways Ahmet Gülşen, Menemen Mayor Aydın Pehlivan, and numerous members of parliament.
