DEVA Party Ankara Deputy İdris Şahin reacted to target deviations in the Medium-Term Program covering the 2027-2029 period and criticized the economic management.

Medium-Term Program Evaluation

DEVA Party Ankara Deputy İdris Şahin made statements regarding the Medium-Term Program covering the 2027-2029 period, which was announced by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz.

Target Deviations in Past Years

In a statement on his social media account, Şahin pointed out the significant discrepancies between the growth and inflation targets included in previous MTPs and the figures announced later.

Deputy Şahin emphasized that while a 5 percent growth and an 8.5 percent inflation target were set for 2026 back in 2023, the growth expectation in the latest MTP was reduced to 3.3 percent, and the inflation forecast was raised to 28.4 percent.

Emphasis on Management Crisis

Reminding of the inflation targets for the years 2024 and 2025, Şahin stated that missing key indicators by exorbitant margins three years in a row is not a technical deviation.

Şahin described this situation as a bankrupt economic management and an explicit management crisis, noting that the MTP shapes many decisions from the budget to investments.

Credibility of New Targets

Criticizing the projection of inflation at 21 percent for 2027, 13.5 percent for 2028, and 9 percent for 2029 in the new program, Şahin questioned the credibility of the new targets due to past changes.

Arguing that global economic conditions cannot be cited as a justification, Şahin demanded an explanation for the reasons behind the deviations over the past three years and that the past period be accounted for before setting new targets.
