Important Statements from President Erdoğan at the Opening of the New Legislative Year of the Turkish Grand National Assembly

The 28th Term 5th Legislative Year of the Turkish Grand National Assembly officially began with a General Assembly session attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In his opening speech for the new legislative year, Erdoğan stated that terrorism has reached the verge of ending and drew attention to the framework law effort.

New Legislative Year of the TBMM Begins

The recess of the Turkish Grand National Assembly has ended, and the opening of the 28th Term 5th Legislative Year was held with a ceremony in the TBMM General Assembly. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered an important speech addressing members of parliament on the first day of the new legislative year.

Emphasis on a Terror-Free Turkey and Framework Law

In his speech, touching upon the Terror-Free Turkey process, President Erdoğan stated that the historic consensus achieved in Parliament with 467 votes in favor regarding the enactment of the framework law disappointed Turkey's adversaries. Erdoğan noted that terrorism has now come to the point of ending.

Statements on Economy and the Earthquake Zone

Stating that Turkey grew by 2.5 percent in the first half of 2026, Erdoğan announced that national income exceeded 1.7 trillion dollars and that exports in August broke a record at an annual 280 billion dollars. He also stated that 3.5 years have passed since the February 6 earthquakes and expressed the peace of mind of rebuilding the 11 provinces.

Parliament Lobbies and Leaders' Meetings

Following the speech, President Erdoğan first shook hands with DEM Party MPs and gave a rose to the MHP leader. Erdoğan, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, and TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş came together in the General Assembly lobby and held a brief meeting.
