Inflation in the Euro Area Rose to a Three-Year High

August Consumer Price Increase
According to the statement by Eurostat, consumer prices increased by 3.3 percent in August compared to the previous year. This rate showed an upward momentum from the 2.9 percent level recorded in the previous month.
Core Inflation and Services
The core inflation indicator, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, unexpectedly fell to 2.4 percent. Services inflation, which is closely monitored, dropped to 3 percent.
Investor Expectations and Interest Rate Hikes
Investors expect additional interest rate hikes because inflation remains above target and the economy exhibits robust performance. A quarter-point increase scheduled for September 10 has been fully priced in by the markets.
Sub-components of Inflation
The highest annual inflation rate in August occurred in the energy sector, rising from 10.3 percent in July to 14.3 percent. Services increased by 3.0 percent, non-energy industrial goods by 1.2 percent, and the food, alcohol, and tobacco group by 1.2 percent.
Unemployment Rate Data
According to the released data, the unemployment rate across the Euro Area was recorded at 6.4 percent in August. The market expectation on this matter was 6.3 percent.
