Expectation of a Large Increase in Diesel Prices

Fluctuations in Brent crude oil prices and movements in the exchange rate continue to push fuel prices upward. Industry sources expect a price hike of 6 liras and 62 kurus per liter of diesel as of Tuesday.

Three-Digit Price Problem at Station Pumps

The approach of fuel prices to the 100 TL per liter threshold has caused concern in the distribution sector. Two-thirds of the counters in the pumps located at 14,000 stations across Turkey lack the hardware to display three-digit figures.

Pump Types and Conversion Needs

While one-third of the approximately 75,000-80,000 pumps consist of older-type mechanical counters, another third only supports two-digit prices. Pumps in this condition need to be completely renewed or undergo software revisions.

Conversion Cost of Millions of Dollars

The renewal of older-type manual pumps and card and automation updates for digital pumps create a significant financial burden. The sector is expected to face a total cost of 212.5 million dollars during this transition process.

Industry representatives are continuing their contacts with the Energy Market Regulatory Authority in order to prevent potential counter lock-ups. The discussions address granting a reasonable period for field conversion and regulatory compliance.
