Major Banks in Russia Granted Cryptocurrency Licenses
The Central Bank of Russia has registered the country's leading financial institutions, Sber and VTB, in the digital custody and transaction registry.
According to an announcement by the Central Bank of Russia, Sber and VTB banks have been included in the registry of digital custodians. VTB was also registered in the digital currency trading registry.
Registry Registrations
In an official statement by the Central Bank of Russia, it was reported that Sber and VTB were included in the digital custodian registry. VTB was also added to the registry of institutions engaged in digital currency trading.
Banks' Plans
VTB plans to provide a wide investor base with access to cryptocurrency transactions by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Sber announced that it plans to launch its first cryptocurrency products on December 1, 2026.
Legal Infrastructure
The law on Digital Currencies and Digital Rights had entered into force in the country on September 1. This law allows transactions to be conducted through various brokerage firms and custodian institutions.
