As the nectarine and peach harvest began in Çerkeşli Village, attached to Bilecik's Osmaneli district, the drop in nectarine prices from 60-70 liras last year to the 10-20 lira range this year caused a reaction among producers.

Production and Harvest Process Began

Peach and nectarine harvest officially started in Çerkeşli Village, attached to Bilecik's Osmaneli district, and producers set out to gather their crops.

While nectarine production across Bilecik is realized at 10,625 tons over an area of 4,200 decares, production in the Osmaneli district follows a similar level.

Price Difference Between Last Year and This Year

Nectarine producer Recep Yağcı reminded that nectarine prices ranged between 60-70 liras last year and emphasized that prices have dropped significantly this year.

Yağcı stated that due to the high yield this season, satisfactory efficiency could not be achieved in prices, and the products are finding buyers in the 10 to 20 lira range.

Price Policy of Fruit Juice Companies

One of the situations challenging producers the most was that fruit juice companies purchased the remaining products at a very low figure such as 5 liras.

Producers stated that they find it interesting that the labels on market shelves remain the same despite prices in the field dropping this much, and that an urgent solution must be found to this situation.
