Speaking at the High-Level Ministers Session on Oceans, Climate, and Blue Economy held in Trabzon, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that Turkey is ready to share its experiences in marine conservation.

Trabzon's Climate and Disaster Profile

Stating that Trabzon is the fifth province with the highest rainfall in Turkey, Minister Kurum reported that the city has faced more than a hundred meteorological disasters in the last fifty years. Touching upon the impacts of extreme weather events, floods, fires, and landslides, Kurum noted that the state stands by the citizens with all its means.

Economic Risks and Ecological Developments

Announcing that a fifteen percent improvement has been recorded in fish stocks in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, Kurum stated, however, that the economic cost of disruptions in ocean ecosystems could exceed four hundred billion dollars by the year two thousand fifty.

Clean Seas and Coastal Projects

Expressing that they introduced the MAPA-Buoy system to protect the seas in the Fethiye-Göcek region, Minister Kurum added that their main route is to create clean seas and resilient coasts. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and Trabzon Governor Tahir Şahin also attended the meeting.
