Ministry of Trade Imposes Billions in Market Inspection Fines in the First 8 Months of the Year
In the Ministry of Trade's extensive inspections during the January-August period, hundreds of thousands of companies were checked and billions of liras in fines were levied.
The Ministry of Trade shared the market inspection results for the January-August period of 2026. During the inspections, 321,911 companies and millions of products were audited, resulting in a total of 2.24 billion liras in administrative fines being imposed.
Internal Trade and General Inspections
The Ministry of Trade's internal trade inspection units conducted comprehensive reviews in the first eight months of the year to protect economic stability and consumer rights.
During this process, a total of 321,911 companies and 39,243,067 products were meticulously inspected, and penal actions were taken against those failing to comply with the rules.
Exorbitant Pricing and Sectoral Fines
Within the scope of the work carried out by the General Directorate of Internal Trade, 54,823 real and legal persons were subjected to audits.
A total of 692 million 28 thousand liras in administrative fines were levied on 5,574 individuals or businesses whose unlawful acts were detected.
Consumer Rights and Contract Audits
The General Directorate of Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance examined contract and advertising areas involving 85 million citizens.
As a result of the checks performed, a total of 771 million 93 thousand liras in fines were issued to 1,342 real and legal entities engaging in unlawful actions.
Provincial Directorates and Metropolitan Data
In inspections carried out through provincial trade directorates, 229,643 companies were checked.
While millions of products were examined in the provinces of Ankara, Istanbul, and Antalya, high administrative fines were applied to numerous companies.
Activities of the Competition Authority
Within the framework of the work carried out by the Competition Authority, elements that damage market competition were placed under close scrutiny.
In this context, a total of 19.7 billion liras in fines were levied in the first 8 months of 2026 on 248 companies operating in various sectors.
