New bans and updated price tariff in school canteens
With the joint decision of three ministries, the sale of certain unhealthy products in school canteens was banned and prices were increased for the new academic term.
With the start of the new academic year, comprehensive regulations were implemented in school canteens through the cooperation of three ministries. In addition to new decisions banning the sale of unhealthy snacks, canteen product prices were also updated.
Products Banned from Sale in Canteens
In the new term, carbonated beverages, chips, and deep-fried foods such as potatoes were completely banned in school canteens. Furthermore, the sale of confectionery, cream chocolate, and filled packaged foods will not be permitted.
New Cheese Obligation for Toast
According to the regulation, the use of processed or cream cheese in toast prepared in school canteens was banned. Instead, a requirement was introduced to use at least 20 grams of real cheese in toast.
Increases Made to Canteen Prices
Vahap Osmanoğlu, President of the Istanbul Canteen Operators Tradesmen Association, announced that a 6.2 percent price increase was implemented in canteen prices for the new academic term. With the price hike, the price of a toast rose from 90 liras to 100 liras.
Current Canteen Price Tariff
According to the new tariff, bagels are 30 liras, pastries and buns are 35 liras, and half a liter of water is 15 liras. Chicken döner is offered for sale at 145 liras, tea at 25 liras, and hamburgers at 160 liras. The price of a three-course meal was set at 245 liras.
