New Electricity Transmission Projects on the Agenda Between Turkey and Azerbaijan

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that major projects in the electricity field lie ahead for Turkey and Azerbaijan, announcing the electricity transmission line via Nakhchivan, a quadruple green energy corridor, and projects to transfer electricity to Europe under the Black Sea.

Strategic cooperation in a crisis environment

Stating that the world has become a world of crises and that this situation is the "new normal," Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said that Turkey and Azerbaijan are developing predictable, diversified, and more intensive energy cooperation in this environment.

Prominent new electricity projects

Minister Bayraktar stated that there are very large projects between Turkey and Azerbaijan in the field of electricity, announcing that these include the electricity transmission line coming to Turkey via Nakhchivan, the Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan-Bulgaria quadruple green energy corridor, and the electricity transmission line going to Europe under the Black Sea.

Contribution of natural gas pipelines to supply security

Recalling projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas Pipeline, TANAP, and TAP, Bayraktar emphasized that 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas have flowed from TANAP as of this year and that this line makes a huge contribution to Europe's supply security.

Two complementary markets

Noting that Turkey and Azerbaijan have complementary characteristics, Bayraktar stated that Azerbaijan is an important oil and natural gas producer and is now moving towards becoming an electricity producer.

Aiming to increase existing capacities

Explaining that they primarily aim to fully utilize the capacity of existing projects, Bayraktar stated that 600,000 barrels of oil currently flow from Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, while the capacity of the pipeline is 1 million barrels.
