New record level in short-term external debt stock in April
According to the data of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, external debts with a maturity of one year or less and the short-term external debt stock increased in April.
According to April data, external debts with a maturity of one year or less reached $242 billion, while the short-term external debt stock stood at $171.6 billion.
Developments in the Short-Term External Debt Stock
According to the data of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the short-term external debt stock increased by 3 percent compared to the previous month, reaching $171.6 billion in April.
The total external debt stock with a maturity of one year or less rose to $242 billion in April, setting a new record.
Debt Distribution of the Banking Sector
The short-term external debt stock originating from banks increased by 5.8 percent compared to the previous month, rising to a total of $75.5 billion.
Short-term loan and security liabilities secured by domestic banks from abroad increased by 4.1 percent to $8.7 billion.
Deposit and Other Liability Items
Deposits of non-resident banks in Turkey increased by 6.7 percent to $18.6 billion, while the short-term debt stock of other sectors rose by 2.8 percent to $71.4 billion.
According to the remaining maturity, short-term external debt stock deposit liabilities reached $66.8 billion, and loan and security liabilities reached $74.9 billion.
Currency Composition and Credit Developments
While the shares of the US dollar and euro in the short-term external debt stock decreased, there was a significant increase in the shares of the Turkish lira and other currencies.
The US dollar accounted for 34.8 percent of the stock, the euro for 26.7 percent, the Turkish lira for 24.5 percent, and other currencies for 14.0 percent.
