The total number of unemployed in Germany, which had been above the three million mark for two months, fell back below this threshold in September with the recorded decrease, registering at 2.994 million.

September Data and Decrease

According to non-seasonally adjusted data in Germany, the total number of unemployed decreased by 67,000 people in September to 2.994 million, dropping below the 3 million mark once again.

Seasonally Adjusted Rates

While the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed in the country increased by 12,000 people in September to reach 3.01 million, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 6.4 percent.

Change in Unemployment Rate

Based on non-seasonally adjusted data, the unemployment rate also declined from 6.5 percent in August to 6.4 percent in September.

Economic Weakness and Summer Period

Having risen steadily since July with the start of the summer vacation period, the number of unemployed had exceeded the 3 million threshold in July for the first time since April, accompanied by general economic weakness.

Federal Employment Agency's Assessment

Federal Employment Agency (BA) Chairperson Andrea Nahles stated that a traditional autumn rise was expected in September, but this year's start remained quite muted.
