Oman Calls for Alternative Route to the Strait of Hormuz for LNG Exports

Call to Gulf Countries for Diversification
Minister Al-Aufi called for the creation of alternative routes to transport liquefied natural gas without using the Strait of Hormuz. Addressing officials, he emphasized that alternative export options should be determined from the north, via Oman, or through Yemen.
Importance of the Critical Chokepoint
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint through which approximately one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas supplies are transported under normal conditions. The war environment in the region has highlighted the heavy reliance of Gulf countries' exports on a single maritime route.
Current Situation and New Quests
This necessity is pushing countries to develop new solutions to secure export flows and their economies. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company is also among the institutions evaluating the possibility of establishing a new LNG export facility outside the Strait of Hormuz.
