Oruç Reis Research Vessel in the Field for TRNC Natural Gas Pipeline
As Oruç Reis begins new research for the planned pipeline project between Turkey and the TRNC, it is targeted to be commissioned in 2028.
Within the framework of the planned Anamur-Teknecik Natural Gas Pipeline project between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the Oruç Reis research vessel is carrying out new activities in the field.
Field Studies Within the Scope of NAVTEX
Research is continuing in the maritime area between Turkey's southern coasts and northern Cyprus within the scope of the NAVTEX issued for the Oruç Reis research vessel.
These studies serve as a continuation of the scientific and underwater investigations regarding the Anamur-Teknecik Natural Gas Pipeline.
Technical Details and Schedule of the Project
The line, planned to be approximately 101 kilometers long, will start from Mersin's Anamur district and reach Teknecik, east of Kyrenia.
While the project envisages the installation of two 22-inch pipelines, engineering studies are planned to be completed and the line commissioned.
Contribution to TRNC Energy Infrastructure
In the first stage, the line is targeted to be used in electricity generation in the TRNC and to reduce dependence on liquid fuels.
Thus, it is aimed to increase fuel diversity and lower energy costs.
Bidirectional Gas Flow Infrastructure
In the long-term dimension of the project, it is important that the line is designed to be suitable for bidirectional gas flow.
This structure will enable the gas that could be produced in the Eastern Mediterranean in the future to be transported to Turkey.
