Preparation for fare refund period on metro and tram lines in Istanbul
Efforts are underway to install Metrobus-like refund vending machines in rail systems in Istanbul, and distance-based pricing is planned.
In Istanbul, preparations are nearing completion to introduce fare refund vending machines, similar to those already used in Metrobuses, on metro and tram lines.
Final Stage in Works
An important project concerning millions of passengers using metros and trams in Istanbul has reached its final stage, and it is planned to put fare refund vending machines into service on these lines as well, just like in Metrobuses. Within the scope of the project, which has been on the agenda for a while, work at some stations has reached the completion stage, the locations where the refund devices will be positioned have been determined, and the necessary electrical line installations have been completed.
Current Tariff Status
Currently, passengers traveling on metro and tram lines pay the same fare regardless of the distance they travel. According to the current tariff, the full ticket is offered to citizens at 46.2 liras, the student ticket at 22.55 liras, the student ticket for those over 30 years old at 41.58 liras, and the social ticket at 33.08 liras.
Future Regulations and UKOME
With the new tariff system, passengers are expected to pay different fares based on the distance between the boarding and exiting stations. Although it has not yet been clarified exactly when the application will be put into practice, technical studies are continuing rapidly, and the regulation is expected to be brought to the agenda of UKOME.
