Prof. Dr. Veysi Seviğ, Prominent Figure in Tax Law and Public Finance, Passes Away

Chief Accountant, academic, and author Prof. Dr. Veysi Seviğ, one of Turkey's leading figures in tax law and public finance, has lost his life. Seviğ was known for the high-level duties he carried out in state bureaucracy as well as the lasting marks he left in the academic world and the press.

Bureaucracy and State Duties

Born in 1939, Veysi Seviğ began his career in state bureaucracy, undertaking critical duties as a Chief Accountant within the Ministry of Finance for many years. Signing international works under the Economic Attaché of Turkey's Embassy in London, Seviğ played an active role in the preparation processes of the 5-Year Development Plans at the State Planning Organization.

Consultancy and Institutional Contributions

Carrying his state experience to management levels, Seviğ served as an advisor on tax laws during the National Security Council period and performed the duty of Prime Ministry Advisor during the government of Tansu Çiller. By taking part within the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, he established important bridges between the public sector and the real sector.

Academic Career and Educational Activities

Stepping into academic life after his public duties, Prof. Dr. Veysi Seviğ lectured as a faculty member for many years at Anadolu University and Marmara University. During this process, he contributed to the development of the field of tax law by training thousands of students and numerous academics.

Place in the Publishing and Press World

Guiding the financial literature, Seviğ was among the founders of the Vergi Dünyası (Tax World) magazine and penned articles uninterruptedly for 30 years during his half-century journey in the press world. Until the final period of his life, he continued his columnistship at Ekonomi Gazetesi, leaving behind a vast written corpus.
