Remote Identity Verification Regulation from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey
With a communiqué by the Central Bank, payment and electronic money institutions were granted the opportunity to use biometric data in remote identity verification processes.
With a new communiqué published in the Official Gazette by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the biometric data option has been added to the remote identity verification procedures of payment and electronic money institutions.

The regulation regarding amendments to the Central Bank's relevant communiqué on information systems and data sharing services has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
Use of Biometric Data
According to the new regulation, payment and electronic money institutions will be able to use the biometric data of relevant individuals in identity verification and contract processes conducted via remote communication tools.
Identity Document Controls
While expressions regarding remote identity verification processes have been updated as identity documents, controls regarding the document's originality, integrity, and visual elements will be recorded uninterruptedly.
Process for Foreign Nationals
The identity verification of real persons who are not Turkish citizens will be conducted remotely in accordance with the principles of the Financial Crimes Investigation Board, using passports compatible with the ICAO 9303 standard and equipped with near-field communication features.
