Second-hand automobile market saw a monthly increase in August

Having recorded a contraction compared to the same month of last year, the second-hand automobile market revived compared to July, reaching the highest monthly sales figure of 2026.

Although the second-hand automobile market in Turkey showed a decrease on an annual basis in August, it gained momentum compared to July and reached the highest monthly sales figure of the year.

Sales Increased in August

Although the second-hand automobile market in Turkey contracted in August compared to the same period of last year, it experienced a more active period compared to the previous month.

According to TURKSTAT data, the number of automobile transfers, which was 659,915 in August 2025, decreased by 7.7 percent in the same month of this year to 608,888.

On the other hand, compared to the 588,504 units sold in July, there was an increase of 3.5 percent, reaching the highest monthly sales of the year.

General Contraction in the First Eight-Month Period

Looking generally at the January-August period, it was clearly seen that the contraction trend in the second-hand automobile market continued.

While 4,817,462 automobiles changed hands in the same period of last year, sales decreased by 3.5 percent this year to 4,650,502 units.

It was officially determined that there was a loss of approximately 167,000 units in the market compared to last year.

Decrease in All Vehicle Types in August

A similar picture emerged in the broader second-hand market covering automobiles, motorcycles, pickup trucks, and all other vehicle types.

In the total second-hand market, 917,143 transfers took place in August with a 6.9 percent decrease.

In the first eight-month period, a 3 percent decrease was recorded in the total vehicle market with 6,944,252 transfers.

Sharper Decline in the New Car Market

The contraction in the new-vehicle automobile market drew a much sharper decline graph compared to the second-hand market.

According to ODMD data, new automobile sales in August decreased by 25.16 percent compared to the same month of last year, dropping to 61,529 units.

In the January-August period, sales decreased by 13.78 percent to 564,241 units.
