According to a study prepared by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, the total population of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member countries reached approximately 3.4 billion, and their nominal gross domestic product exceeded $26 trillion.
Number of Members and Structural Development
Founded in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, the organization has transformed into a 10-member structure with recent accessions.
Economic Growth and Resources
The average economic growth of SCO countries in 2025 hovered around 5 percent, outpacing the global average, and the organization reached a critical position in global energy production.
Increase in Intra-Trade Volume
Intra-organization exports surged about 2.5 times between 2015 and 2024, rising to $674 billion and increasing its share in total foreign trade.
Turkey's Dialogue Partnership
Turkey, which is not an SCO member, has held dialogue partner status in the organization since 2012, closely monitoring joint efforts in various fields.
Emphasis on Strategic Autonomy
Experts state that the organization is not a direct alternative to the West-centric order and that Turkey's relations should be evaluated within the framework of strategic autonomy.
