Statement from Sakarya GİAD on the Ferizli-Kaynarca Industrial Zone Decision
In its statement regarding the Ferizli-Kaynarca Industrial Zone decision, Sakarya GİAD drew attention to the importance of investment and production, while emphasizing that environmental impacts, transparent EIA processes, and the protection of water resources and agricultural lands must also be safeguarded.
The Sakarya Young Businessmen Association (GİAD) made evaluations regarding the Ferizli-Kaynarca Industrial Zone decision, calling for a balance between economic growth and environmental sensitivities.
Economic Development and Opportunities
In the statement published under the signature of Chairman of the Board Samet Karabaş, it was stated that the decision is important in terms of developing the city's investment, production, export, and employment capacity.
It was noted that the industrial zone will create new opportunities for young entrepreneurs and contribute to Sakarya's economic development.
Environmental Sensitivities and Concerns
While it was noted that the concerns expressed by the public regarding the environmental impacts of the decision are taken seriously, it was emphasized that environmental effects must be evaluated in light of scientific data.
Sakarya GİAD pointed out the importance of conducting the process transparently and taking into account the environmental heritage to be left to future generations.
EIA Process and Call for Transparency
It was requested that the EIA process be carried out in a transparent and participatory manner, and that the opinions of relevant professional chambers and non-governmental organizations be taken.

While it was stated that the sectors planned to operate in the region should be announced, it was requested that environmental factors such as water consumption and waste generation be taken into consideration when determining these sectors.

In the statement, it was expressed that the commitments to be made by investors should be tied to clear schedules and measurable targets.
It was noted that the realization status of investments must be regularly audited to prevent industrial areas that were declared in the past but remained idle for many years from facing the same situation again.

The association emphasized that it is important to obtain the views of chambers of agriculture as well as neighborhood and village headmen, alongside the business world and professional organizations at the provincial level, at every stage of the process.

Attention was drawn to the fact that economic gains can become permanent thanks to correct sector selection, adequate infrastructure, clean production technologies, and effective auditing.
Stating that the understanding of development should not be limited only to increasing production and employment, an emphasis was placed on a livable city together with a strong economy.
