The Tax Inspection Board, affiliated with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, increased its audits targeting large-scale and high-income taxpayers, raising the inspection rate to 31.3% and securing a significant amount of tax base increase through ongoing compliance programs.
Large-Scale Taxpayers Under Scrutiny
The Presidency of the Tax Inspection Board increased the inspection rate for large-scale taxpayers to 31.3% through its ongoing efforts. This rate, which was around 11% in past years, indicates that nearly one out of every three large taxpayers is under audit.
Audit Rates and Methodologies
While the rate stood at 31.3% for large-scale taxpayers in the inspections conducted, it was recorded as 7.3% for medium-scale taxpayers and 1.1% for small-scale taxpayers. Invitation to explanation is preferred for medium-scale taxpayers, while warning-oriented monitoring practices are chosen for small-scale taxpayers.
High-Income Groups Monitoring Program
The Ministry implemented the Second High-Income Groups Monitoring and Compliance Program to ensure that taxpayers in the high-income group accurately submit their 2025 earnings declarations. Within this scope, the number of monitored taxpayers reached 16,307 people.
Risk Analysis and Luxury Lifestyle Audit
Taxpayers within the scope of monitoring were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of those who have partnerships in the 42,000 largest companies whose income tax declarations do not match, while the second group consisted of individuals who do not own a company but lead a luxury lifestyle yet pay low taxes.
First-Time Declarants
It was determined that approximately 7,000 people under monitoring had never filed declarations in the past. A significant portion of these individuals filed declarations for the first time, recording their incomes and securing serious tax base increases across various items.
Call for Voluntary Compliance from Minister Şimşek
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek emphasized that audit capacity has been strengthened through the effective use of technology and invited taxpayers in the high-income group to voluntary tax compliance.
