Total Deposits in Turkey's Banking Sector Declined

According to weekly data announced by the Central Bank, total deposits in the banking sector recorded a drop in the first week of September.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey published weekly money and bank statistics. Accordingly, total deposits in the banking sector decreased by 1.5 percent in the week ending September 4, showing a decline.

Deposit Data and Decline Rate

According to data announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total deposits in the banking sector decreased by 1.5 percent in the week ending September 4. Total deposits of the sector declined during this period from 33 trillion 720 billion 305 million 617 thousand liras to 33 trillion 215 billion 882 million 594 thousand liras.

Change in Turkish Lira and Foreign Currency Deposits

In the same period, Turkish lira-denominated deposits in banks decreased by 2.92 percent to 17 trillion 946 billion 742 million 757 thousand liras. Foreign currency-denominated deposits, on the other hand, realized at the level of 10 trillion 992 billion 975 million 857 thousand liras with a 0.96 percent drop.

Foreign Currency Accounts of Domestic Residents

Total foreign currency deposits in banks were recorded at the level of 268 billion 320 million dollars last week. Of this amount, 228 billion 352 million dollars were gathered in the accounts of individuals residing domestically.

Consumer Loans and Credit Volume

Consumer loans of domestic residents increased by 0.36 percent last week to 6 trillion 921 billion 94 million 246 thousand liras. The total credit volume of the banking sector also increased by 86 billion 948 million 918 thousand liras, reaching 27 trillion 373 billion 80 million 485 thousand liras.
