Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of highway tunnels across Turkey has reached 548, with the total length reaching 881 kilometers.

Major Development in the Tunnel Network

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu reported that the number of tunnels, which was 83 at the end of 2002, has been increased to 548.

It was stated that the total tunnel length, which was 50 kilometers in the same period, reached 881 kilometers with an increase of approximately 17.6 times.

Top Five Longest Tunnels and Their Lengths

Turkey's longest highway tunnels include Zigana, Ovit, Eğribel, Ilgaz 15 July Independence, and Cankurtaran.

It was stated that the total length of these mega projects is 45.4 kilometers, enhancing the quality of transportation across the country.

Billions of Liras in Savings Achieved

According to the disclosed data, a total of 38.7 million vehicle crossings have taken place through the top five longest tunnels since the day they were opened.

It was emphasized that a total of 3.3 billion liras in savings on fuel and time are achieved annually thanks to these tunnels.
