Turkish Economy Recorded 2.3 Percent Growth in the Second Quarter of 2026
While national income exceeded 1.7 trillion dollars, the current account deficit materialized at 38.9 billion dollars, and sectoral contributions to growth became clear.
The Turkish economy grew by 1.1 percent compared to the previous period and 2.3 percent on an annual basis in the second quarter of 2026, while annualized national income left the 1.7 trillion dollar threshold behind.
Growth Data and Sectoral Contributions
The Turkish economy exhibited a growth performance of 2.3 percent on an annual basis and 1.1 percent on a quarterly basis in the second quarter of 2026.
With the support of technology-intensive sectors, industrial value added increased by 2.4 percent, while the agricultural sector recorded a growth rate of 13.3 percent.
Consumption and External Balance Developments
In the second quarter, private consumption expenditures recorded an increase of 3.5 percent, while investments showed a limited increase of 0.6 percent.
The annualized current account deficit was 38.9 billion dollars in this period, and its ratio to national income materialized at 2.3 percent.
Evaluations by Minister Şimşek
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek reported that balanced growth was achieved during a period when global conditions became more difficult.
Additionally, it was announced that the ratio of gross external debt to national income followed a horizontal course at the level of 31.6 percent.
