Turkish Economy Registers 2.3 Percent Growth in the Second Quarter

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the country's economy grew by 2.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of the year.

According to the Gross Domestic Product results for the April-June 2026 period announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Turkish economy recorded a growth of 2.3 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and the uninterrupted growth streak reached 24 quarters.

Gross Domestic Product Values

The Turkish Statistical Institute shared the Gross Domestic Product results for the April-June period of 2026 with the public. According to the announced data, the GDP estimate at current prices by production method increased by 36 percent in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching the level of 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras. The GDP value in US dollars was calculated as 438 billion 347 million dollars in the second quarter.

Sectoral Growth and Changes

When the activities forming the GDP are examined, according to the chained volume index in the second quarter of the year, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector showed an increase of 13.3 percent. Information and communication activities increased by 8.6 percent, public administration, education, human health, and social service activities by 2 percent, and taxes on products minus subsidies by 3.3 percent. Other service activities grew by 3.2 percent, the industrial sector by 2.4 percent, and financial and insurance as well as real estate activities by 2.1 percent. The construction sector, on the other hand, experienced a decline of 1.9 percent in this period.

Expectations and Period Data

Economists participating in the AA Finance Growth Expectation Survey had predicted that the Turkish economy would grow by 2.8 percent in the second quarter of the year. While the announced official data remained below this expectation, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted GDP chained volume index recorded an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the previous quarter.
