US and China Economic Delegations Begin Critical Talks in New York
An economic delegation led by Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is traveling to the United States to discuss commercial issues between the two countries.
According to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, a delegation headed by Vice Premier He Lifeng is visiting the US for economic and trade talks to be held in New York from September 19-23.
Delegations' Visit Program
In an official statement made by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, it was stated that the Chinese delegation headed by Vice Premier He Lifeng will visit the US for economic and trade talks between September 19-23.
It was noted that, in accordance with the consensus previously reached by the leaders of the two countries, the parties will conduct detailed consultations on economic and trade issues of mutual concern.
Main Topics to Be Addressed
US government sources had previously announced that artificial intelligence, trade, rare earth elements, and other critical economic issues would be discussed at the meetings to be held in New York.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who will chair the US delegation during the talks, had stated that he was open to discussing the joint risks of artificial intelligence with the Chinese side.
Preparation for the Leaders' Visit
These high-level talks serve as preparation for Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected visit to the US next week.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his US counterpart Marco Rubio held a phone call on September 17 in which they discussed high-level contacts between the two countries.
Bilateral Relations and Past Process
Relations between the US and China encompass widening disagreements driven by tariff increases and technology restrictions from the Washington administration, as well as China's steps toward the control of rare earth elements.
Following the meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan, South Korea, on October 30, 2025, the parties had reached a temporary compromise on issues of dispute.
