US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have reached an agreement on diesel supply to lower rising fuel prices. While the initial phase plans for the purchase of 300,000 tons of diesel, the US Department of Treasury temporarily eased certain restrictions on Russian energy products until April 7, 2027.

300 Thousand Tons of Diesel Shipment in the First Phase

US President Donald Trump announced that they reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on diesel supply to lower rising fuel prices. In the first phase, it is planned to quickly introduce over 300,000 tons of diesel to the market.

It is projected that the planned shipment will be increased by 500,000 tons in November, and immediately followed by an additional amount of 1 million tons. Depending on the condition of Russian refineries, it is stated that another 3 million tons of diesel could be supplied shortly.

Statement from the Kremlin for Global Markets

In the statement made by the Kremlin, it was reported that developments in global energy markets were discussed during the meeting between Putin and Trump. The Russian leader emphasized that they are ready to supply oil and petroleum products to the US and world markets.

Kremlin Foreign Policy Advisor Yuriy Ushakov stated that potential shipments of Russian petroleum products to the US market, options for resolving the war in Ukraine, and bilateral relations were brought to the agenda during the meeting.

Temporary Relaxation Step in Energy Sanctions

With the regulation published by the US Department of Treasury, it was decided to temporarily ease certain restrictions on Russian diesel until April 7, 2027. Washington took this step to keep energy costs under control.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that they will start lifting restrictions on diesel exports earlier than planned and that the needs of the domestic market will be met.

Impact on Markets and Expert Evaluations

According to American Automobile Association data, the average price of diesel per gallon had risen to $6.28. These increasing costs were putting pressure on the agriculture and transportation sectors.

Experts noted that the shipment could provide short-term psychological relief and bring a drop of 10 to 20 cents per gallon, but it would be difficult for it to be a long-term permanent solution.
