US Announces New Sanctions on Iran as Pakistan Holds Diplomatic Contacts in Tehran
Amid escalating pressure on Iran, the US announced new sanction decisions covering five sectors, including digital assets, gold, and aviation, while Pakistani Interior Minister Naqvi reported significant progress in contacts in Tehran.
As the US administration announced new secondary sanctions targeting the Iranian economy following the targeting of military facilities, Pakistan launched a diplomatic initiative in Tehran aiming to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
US Sanctions Decision Covering Five Sectors
US President Donald Trump's administration increased pressure on the country's economy following airstrikes targeting Iran's military and nuclear facilities. The newly implemented secondary sanctions cover the digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and maritime transport sectors.
Approximately 60 individuals, entities, and vessels were included in the announced sanctions list. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that this move constitutes an operation aimed at cutting off the financial lifelines of the Iranian economy.
Pakistan's Diplomatic Initiative in Tehran
At a time when military and economic tensions in the region are escalating, Pakistan held diplomatic contacts in Tehran to end the war and ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that major progress has been made in efforts to prevent the escalation of tensions with Iran and to find a negotiated solution to the conflicts.
Response and Counter-Attack Emphasis from the Iranian Side
Commenting on the developments, Iranian Minister of Economy Ali Madanizadeh said in an evaluation on state television that his country was fully prepared for US sanctions.
Madanizadeh stated that Iran's approach is not solely defense-oriented and that the possibility of a potential counter-attack must also be taken into account.
