US President Donald Trump announced that he has given official instructions to exclude Canadian-origin products from public tenders, arguing that Canada does not provide fair trade opportunities for American companies and farmers.

Emphasis on Reciprocity in Trade Relations

In a statement made via social media, US President Donald Trump stated that Canada does not allow American dairy producers to sell in its own market. Trump recalled that Canada continues to produce automobiles thanks to trade agreements signed in previous periods.

Bans Imposed on Public Tenders

Arguing that the Canadian government and its provinces ban American small businesses from participating in their own public tenders, Trump stated that the US provides Canada with access in this area. He described the current situation as trade fraud.

Instructions Given to GSA and USTR

It was requested that Canadian-origin products be removed from the General Services Administration tender schedules until reciprocity is achieved. Trump announced that he has given instructions to the General Services Administration and the Office of the US Trade Representative in this regard.

Annual Volume of Tender Programs

It was pointed out that the annual volume of these tender programs exceeds 50 billion dollars. Trump argued that Canada's access to these programs should have been terminated much earlier.
