US President Donald Trump stated that he expects further talks to be held with the Tehran administration this week, following Iran's rejection of a 7-day ceasefire proposal for the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump evaluated the crisis in the Gulf and the negotiations with Iran in a telephone interview with the Axios news website. Trump stated that he expects US negotiators to hold new talks with Iranian officials this week.
,I expect more talks with Iran this week. They want to make a deal, but it's not the deal I want to make," Trump said, noting that he continues to evaluate military options as well.
Strait of Hormuz and Oil Shipments
When asked whether he was considering resuming military strikes against Iran, Trump replied, "I always think about that." Defending that the US military facilitates oil shipments from the Strait of Hormuz, Trump claimed that over 20 million barrels of oil were exported from the strait over the weekend.

Qatar and other regional mediators continue their diplomatic initiatives for the resumption of negotiations between the US and Iran. However, fundamental disagreements between the parties continue to persist.
