According to data released by the US Department of Labor, producer prices in the country recorded an increase of 0.4 percent monthly and 5.4 percent annually in August.

Monthly Producer Price Developments

According to the data released by the US Department of Labor, the PPI recorded an increase of 0.4 percent in August compared to the previous month.

This realized monthly rate was in exact compliance with market expectations, while it had been recorded at 0.1 percent in the previous month.

Annual Producer Inflation Data

The annual increase in producer prices reached 5.4 percent in August and came in slightly above market expectations.

While markets expected annual producer inflation to be at 5.3 percent, the annual increase in July was announced as 4.8 percent.

Core PPI and Details

Excluding volatile food and energy items, core PPI rose by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis in August.

While market expectations pointed to a 0.3 percent monthly increase in core producer inflation, the annual increase came in line with expectations at 4.6 percent.
