As selling in the US Treasury bond market accelerated, interest rates on 5-year, 10-year, and 30-year maturities reached their highest levels in recent years.

Selling Pressure in Markets

As selling in the US Treasury market accelerated on Wednesday, the upward movement in yields was clearly felt across many maturities.

Inflation and Oil Impact

In the early part of the day, the increase in oil prices triggered concerns that inflation might remain high, creating selling pressure on bonds.

Data Exceeding Expectations

Strong US manufacturing and services sector data, coming in above expectations, also played a role in further accelerating the sell-off in the bond market.

Weak Demand and 5-Year Yield

With demand for the US Treasury's 5-year bond sale turning out weaker than expected, selling pressure escalated, and the yield on this maturity exceeded the 5 percent threshold for the first time since 2007.

10-Year Benchmark Yield

The 10-year Treasury yield, serving as the most important benchmark of the US bond market, recorded an increase of approximately 17 basis points to climb to 5.13 percent, hitting its highest level since 2007.

Peak in 30-Year Bond

Meanwhile, the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond, a long-term borrowing instrument, surpassed 5.41 percent, reaching its highest level recorded since 2004.
