While declines have been experienced in Borsa Istanbul in recent months due to fund liquidation decisions, geopolitical risks, and market developments, large-scale regressions have been observed in the shares of numerous companies.

Sharp Declines Experienced in Markets

Borsa Istanbul has experienced sharp declines in recent months due to fund liquidation decisions and market developments, negatively impacting investors.

Oil price increases stemming from the US-Iran war increased foreign exchange expenditures in Turkey, a net energy importer, making the fight against inflation more difficult.

Value Losses in Stocks

As a result of fluctuations in the market, the shares of 103 companies lost at least 50 percent of their value compared to their peak points.

While there are 236 companies experiencing a drop of over 40 percent, the largest regressions were recorded in the shares of Hedef Holding and Ensari Sinai Yatirimlar.

Measures Taken by Public Institutions

Following the losses experienced in the market, public institutions such as the Central Bank, the Capital Markets Board (SPK), and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) put new measures into effect to ensure a recovery.

While the Central Bank updated borrowing limits, the BDDK enacted a new decision regarding shares acquired by publicly traded banks through buybacks.

Course of the BIST 100 Index

The BIST 100 index, which declined by 5.5 percent on Wednesday under the influence of liquidity- and fund-driven sales, showed a recovery on Thursday with the measures taken.

In the first session of the final trading day of the week, Borsa Istanbul turned downward again, trading with a loss of over 2 percent.
