Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced during inspections in Erzincan that Turkey ranks fourth in the world and second in Europe in greenhouse production area.

Erzincan Greenhouse Visit and Global Ranking

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı inspected the geothermal greenhouse located in the Akyazı campus as part of his program in Erzincan and evaluated Turkey's agricultural position.

Stating that Turkey ranks fourth in the world and second in Europe in greenhouse production area, Yumaklı expressed that they will continue to support this rapidly developing sector.

Growth and Distribution of Greenhouse Areas

It was announced that greenhouse areas in Turkey have grown by 44 percent over the past 24 years, reaching a total production area of 789 thousand decares.

Vegetables are grown in 92 percent of current greenhouse production areas, fruits in 7 percent, and ornamental plants in 1 percent.

Production Quantities and Geothermal Advantage

It was officially reported that an annual production of 8.3 million tons of vegetables and 1 million tons of fruit is carried out in greenhouses across the country.

It was emphasized that the production obtained from the 30-decare greenhouse inspected in Erzincan is equivalent to approximately 90 decares of soil-based production.

Food Supply Security and New Production Policies

It was stated that climate change and geopolitical developments affect agricultural production, and production methods and product patterns must be shaped according to changing conditions.

Emphasizing that food supply security is a matter of national security, it was noted that capacity in crop and animal production as well as aquaculture is being developed.
