Van Tramway Line Project Undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure
The tramway line project prepared by the Van Metropolitan Municipality has been taken over by the ministry in line with the published decree.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that, within the scope of changes made by a Presidential Decree, it has undertaken the City Hospital-Airport-Municipality Tramway Line Project of the Van Metropolitan Municipality.
Project Taken Over by the Ministry
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared the changes made regarding urban rail transport systems in Presidential Decree No. 11726, published with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, through a written statement. Within this scope, the Van Metropolitan Municipality's City Hospital-Airport-Municipality Tramway Line Project was officially undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
Submission of the Feasibility Report
Touching upon the details of the project, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the feasibility report prepared by the Van Metropolitan Municipality was officially submitted to the ministry on November 14, 2025.
Line Features and Route Plan
It was reported that the new line undertaken by the ministry will be 8.67 kilometers long and consist of a total of 11 stations. Thanks to this line, which will also include the airport connection, direct rail system transportation will be provided between the city hospital and the municipality.
Passenger Capacity and Targets
It was stated that the project will serve the city's high-density residential areas, central business districts, hospital facilities, bus terminal, and airport. The route is projected to serve 10,305 passengers per hour in a single direction by the target year 2050.
