Women's share in housing sales reached a historical peak in the first six months

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute and the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, the share of women in housing sales carried out in the first six months of this year reached 40.02 percent, recording a historical peak.

Trend of Change Over the Years

While a distinct male dominance was observed in housing sales in past years, a significant transformation in gender distribution has been experienced recently.

According to TUIK data, while men's share was 65.90 percent in 2013, women's share was recorded as 31.40 percent.

Showing a gradual increase over the years, the rate crossed the 40 percent threshold for the first time this year, passing a new milestone.

Female Ownership by Provinces

According to the data from the first six months of the year, Burdur and Çanakkale lead the provinces where women have the highest share in housing purchases.

Burdur ranked first with 48.43 percent, followed by Çanakkale with 47.02 percent and Balıkesir with 46.47 percent.

Lowest Rates in the East

The province with the lowest share of women in housing sales was recorded as Bitlis with a rate of 24.60 percent.

Bitlis was followed by the provinces of Muş with 25.32 percent and Şırnak with 26.10 percent.

Distribution in Metropolitan Cities

Among the three major cities, İzmir claimed the leadership in female property ownership, while other metropolitan cities remained below the national average.

While İzmir received a share of 44.14 percent, Ankara caught attention with 39.88 percent and İstanbul with 39.39 percent.

Decline in Joint Title Deed Rates

Another detail that stood out in the statistics was the drop in the rates of joint title deed purchases by women and men.

The joint title deed share, which was 2.70 percent in 2013, declined to 1.47 percent in the first six months of this year.
