Yum Brands transfers Pizza Hut operations for $2.7 billion
Yum Brands, the parent company of KFC and Taco Bell, has completed a $2.7 billion transfer deal, including the sale of Pizza Hut stores outside the US and China to LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion.
Yum Brands has transferred its Pizza Hut chain operations outside the US and mainland China to private equity firm LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion. With the sale process reaching a total of $2.7 billion, the company's global CEO, Aaron Powell, has stepped down from his position.
Details and scope of the sale
Yum Brands divested its global Pizza Hut brand operations through two separate transactions totaling $2.7 billion as part of a restructuring effort. The most significant part of this sale involved the transfer of stores outside the US and mainland China to LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion.
Departure of CEO Aaron Powell
Following the completion of the sale transactions, Pizza Hut's global CEO, Aaron Powell, resigned from his position effective September 1, 2026. Powell, who had held this position since 2021, stated that while LongRange Capital had offered him the opportunity to continue in his role, he chose to step down.
Background of the sale decision
Yum Brands management first announced the decision to sell Pizza Hut to the public in June. The company explained that the decision was influenced by weak consumer demand, intense competition in the sector, and persistent declines triggered by the increased use of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.
