Electric and hybrid vehicles reach 51.9 percent share in Turkey's automobile market
In the January-September period, a total of 326,035 electric and hybrid automobiles were sold, with these eco-friendly models capturing more than half of the market.
According to data announced by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association, electric and hybrid automobile sales in Turkey gained significant momentum in the first nine months of the year, reaching 51.9 percent of the total market.
January-September Sales Data
Total automobile sales in Turkey in the January-September period decreased by 15.45 percent compared to the same period of last year, realizing at 627,977 units.
During the same period, light commercial vehicle sales also experienced a 5.12 percent decrease, dropping to a total sales figure of 175,488 units.
Model Distribution and Fuel Types
While gasoline-powered models reached the highest sales figure in the automobile market with 258,453 units, hybrid automobiles achieved sales of 204,956 units.
Diesel automobile sales remained at 34,520 units, while the number of those preferring LPG-powered automobiles was recorded as 8,969 units.
Market Share of Electric Vehicles
While the sales figure of purely electric automobiles was 120,329, this number rose to 121,079 units together with extended-range models.
According to calculations made, the market share of fully electric automobiles was 19.3 percent in the January-September period.
September Market Developments
The 15,128 electric automobiles sold in September alone indicated a 17.1 percent increase compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the said month, electric automobiles constituted 23.7 percent of the market, while hybrid automobiles accounted for 28.1 percent of the market.
