From exile to eternal homeland: Ahiska Turks received their IDs in Ahlat
Ahiska Turks, who were evacuated from the war in Ukraine and settled in the Ahlat district of Bitlis, have also received their Republic of Turkey ID cards after moving into their new homes.
Ahiska Turks, who were brought to Turkey from Ukraine in 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine War, have taken a step toward their new lives in the Ahlat district of Bitlis. The families, who received the keys to 371 residences last month, also obtained their Republic of Turkey ID cards following the completion of the procedures.
The Journey Stretching from Exile to Turkey
Ahiska Turks, who were exiled to various countries in 1944, were evacuated from Ukraine to Turkey in 2022 with the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine War.
They Settled in Their New Residences in Ahlat
The families brought in upon the instruction of President Tayyip Erdogan were first settled in a temporary accommodation area in Elazig. Later, with the completion of 371 residences constructed in Ahlat's Tunus Neighborhood, they moved into their new homes last month.
A Thousand People Acquired Turkish Citizenship
Murat Resuloglu, the Ahlat Representative of the World Ahiska Turks Association, stated that approximately 1,000 Ahiska Turks have acquired Turkish citizenship, emphasizing the pride of carrying the red-and-white ID card with the crescent and star.
Feeling of Eternal Homeland and Happiness
77-year-old Seker Rustuoglu stated that she experienced exile five times throughout her life and expressed gratitude to God for reaching their eternal homeland.
64-year-old Ravil Ahmedoglu, recalling that Turkey evacuated them from the war environment, expressed their joy of returning to their true homeland and lands.
